Cardiff City’s promotion bid has been boosted by the news that Anthony Pilkington’s knee injury is not as serious as first feared.

The Bluebirds striker had to go off during the second half of Tuesday night’s goalless draw at Burnley after suffering the injury.

However, Pilkington was sent for a scan on Wednesday morning which showed no serious damage, and City hope the 27-year-old will be back in action in the near future.

A club statement read: “Following a scan on Wednesday morning, Cardiff City’s Medical Staff have confirmed that Anthony Pilkington has suffered no serious injury.

“Anthony will resume training with the first-team squad in due course, once suitably rested so as to alleviate symptoms.”

It means Pilkington could play in City’s next Championship fixture, away to strugglers Fulham on Saturday.

Manager Russell Slade had expressed his concern that Pilkington could be sidelined as the club gears up to try and make the play-offs in the final six matches of the season.
