- Gerwyn Price Insists He’S Back To Crucial Art Of Winning When Not Firing
Gerwyn Price believes the latest win of his renaissance season will prove the perfect confidence boost for the weeks ahead.
The Welsh star voiced his delight after securing victory at Players Championship 9 in Leicester, claiming an 8-4 win over Ian White in the final.
The former world champion, who had been struggling with injury, battled through an inconsistent day to clinch his second title of the series.
"It's nice to get another win, this is a confidence boost going into tomorrow [Players Championship 10] and the Premier League on Thursday," said Price.
"I said to James Wade at the start of the day: 'I'm going to win today' and I've gone and done it.
"I've been struggling with a bit of an injury over the last week, and it's still not fully healed. I was inconsistent today, I was very up and down in my performance level, but a win's a win."
Despite not feeling at his best, Price showed his resilience throughout the tournament.
His standout moment came in the semi-finals, where he delivered an outstanding 114 average in a 7-0 demolition of Brendan Dolan.
In the final, he produced a crucial 140 checkout in the fourth leg to take a 3-1 lead, maintaining control for the rest of the match.
"I didn't feel too good at the beginning of today - was a little bit up and down in games - but that will give me a boost for the Premier League next week," Price told the PDC.
"I was a little bit inconsistent but I battled on. In the past, I probably throw those games away. There were some ragged points but I'm glad to get a win."
His opponent, Ian White, had reached his first ProTour final in five years after an impressive campaign that included a thrilling 6-5 victory over reigning world champion Luke Littler in the last 32.

The 54-year-old continued his fine form with wins over Josh Rock and Cameron Menzies before ultimately falling short against Price.
White, ranked 52nd in the PDC order of merit, had given Littler a scare in the fourth round of the World Championships earlier this year.
Before that meeting, he revealed he used to compete against Littler’s grandfather in the Runcorn pub circuit back in the 1990s.
Littler had a chance to stay in the match against White but missed a 102 checkout, allowing his opponent to finish on double top and seal a dramatic victory.
Meanwhile, Gary Anderson added a moment of brilliance to the tournament, hitting a nine-dart finish in his opening-round match against Krzysztof Ratajski. However, his run ended in the last 32.
Players Championship events continue throughout the year, with the second part of the Leicester double-header set to take place on Tuesday.
The competition’s grand finale is scheduled to be held in Minehead from 21 to 23 November.
